The Hitchin Primary Outreach Support Service (HPOSS) is based at Oughton Primary & Nursery School, Mattocke Road, Hitchin, SG5 2NZ. 

HPOSS provides outreach support to 22 primary schools in Hitchin and the surrounding villages. 

Our experienced team works collaboratively with schools to support children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who may be at risk of exclusion.

We can provide: 

- Direct support for pupils

- Advice, guidance and training for school staff 

- Support with identifying pupils' needs 

- Development of effective strategies and school policies 

- Systemic support for groups, classes and cohorts 

- Drawing and Talking interventions for individuals and groups 

- Insights and Solutions interventions 

Support for individual pupils and school settings is accessed through a referral to the service. We use the Hertfordshire Behaviour and Wellbeing Strategy tiered approach to help identify the level of support required and ensure that appropriate intervention is provided. 

Our Team 

Sarah Lindus – Lead Teacher 

Sarah brings over 25 years of teaching experience across a wide range of educational settings and age groups. Throughout her career, she has developed extensive expertise in supporting children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping to reduce exclusions while increasing schools' capacity to meet the needs of pupils with complex profiles. 

Her experience includes leading a Primary Support Base, working as a Local Authority Advisory Teacher and Base Teacher, and teaching in both mainstream and specialist settings. Sarah is known for her solution-focused approach, unwavering optimism and deep belief in the positive difference educators can make in children's lives. 

Charlotte Dann – Behaviour Support Outreach Worker 

Charlotte has more than 22 years of experience working with children from Nursery through to Upper Key Stage 2, including in specialist settings supporting children with complex and challenging needs. 

She leads on the development of high-quality visual resources using specialist software and is committed to keeping her practice current through ongoing professional development. Most recently, she completed Insights and Solutions Training, further enhancing her specialist knowledge. 

Charlotte plans every session with care, ensuring each child's individual needs remain at the heart of her practice. She builds strong, positive relationships with school staff and works closely with parents to provide consistent, supportive partnerships that help children thrive. 

Sylvia Ahmet – Behaviour Support Outreach Worker 

Sylvia has dedicated the past 23 years to supporting children with complex needs across North Hertfordshire. During this time, she has established strong partnerships with a range of agencies, including CAMHS, the Child Development Centre (CDC) and the Child Development and Assessment Clinic (CDAC), playing a key role in helping families access diagnoses and appropriate support services. 

A passionate advocate for continuous professional development, Sylvia has led Drawing and Talking within the service and continually develops her knowledge and skills to provide the highest standard of support. 

Using a child-centred approach, Sylvia designs bespoke programmes tailored to each child's individual strengths and needs. Her compassionate, dedicated practice focuses on removing barriers to learning, enabling every child to reach their full potential.
